This is the first edition of Blancos short stories since 1913. A late modernista who sought to contribute to the development of a national literature and on several occasions was candidate for the Nobel prize, Blancos narratives share lyrical qualities and a stern realism. Most noteworthy in this collection is his portrayal of Juan Vicente Gómezs dictatorship –Handbook of Latin American Studies, v. 58.
